Joseph Papp worked in a variety of genres and built up a diverse and reputable career. Papp worked on a variety of projects during his early entertainment career, including "Such Good Friends" (1971) starring Dyan Cannon, "King Lear" (PBS, 1973-74) and "That Championship Season" (1982). Papp had a diverse career throughout the eighties and the nineties, including "The Pirates of Penzance" with Kevin Kline (1983), "Plenty" (1985) starring Meryl Streep, "The Kennedy Center Honors: A Celebration of the Performing Arts" (CBS, 1987-88), "Talk Radio" with Eric Bogosian (1988) and "American Tribute to Vaclav Havel and a Celebration of Democracy in Czechoslovakia" (PBS, 1989-1990). Toward the end of his career, Papp acted in the Al Hirschfeld documentary "The Line King: The Al Hirschfeld Story" (1996). Papp was married to Gail Papp and had five children. Joseph Papp passed away in October 1991 at the age of 70.
